The second project is focused on learning about iteration, internal team feedback and developement for mobile platforms.
To better work iterativly we were very careful to document ideas and iterations, this was very helpful in collaborating on the levels.
Since I had more of a background in puzzle design than my fellow level designer we decided to split the puzzle content thematically. I did creature based puzzles and he did the illusions and then we combined our work. This worked great and let me share knowledge about puzzle design while we both could maintain domain expertize and work as equals.
Since we had a very tight limit for playtime we as designers choose to focus on the puzzles being surprising and the environment conveying the mood.
We worked with designing simple shapes and then use the enviroment, illusions and space folding to obfuscate solutions that would otherwise be too obvious.
Since I was responsible for the creature based puzzles I found the solutions for presenting the character relationship to the creatures. In the early levels they should feel odd an threating. Because of this we place them to block the players process, so the solution is to avoid them.
In the final level the creatures are instead used to press buttons to help the player finish the game.
